I've been practicing Pilates for over 15 years now...I like to share that fact a lot because it totally blows my mind every time I say it. I LOVE fitness and movement, but I tend to get bored with things, and I like to keep things fresh. So that fact that I've been doing Pilates for over 15 years...that really says a lot.
When I first began Pilates, and then began my Apprentice Program, it was really an all-in approach. My twenties gave me all the energy and stamina I needed to work a full time job, and then teach and attend workshops in the early morning, evening and weekend hours. My days were FULL, but I felt amazing, and I knew I was on to something good.
When I began my stint of running races, Pilates is what really helped me power thru injury-free. I was still new to the Chicago area, so running the latest 5K in the city was such a fun way to meet new friends and see new sights. Pilates and running were the perfect pair.
When I became pregnant in 2018 and then had my son, I felt I had won the lottery in my expertise. I had already completed my prenatal/postnatal Pilates training course, and it was fun to be my own client during that season. I paired my knowledge of the body and safety along with listening to my own body's needs, and truly appreciated the art of Pilates during this season. Pregnancy is not a one-size-fits-all season, as we all know, but a lot of the information out there can feel pretty generic. Pilates helped me to thrive during this season, and I came out feeling stronger than ever.
Now, as I'm getting older, I am turning towards more weight training to stay healthy and fit. Weight training is a newer form of fitness to me, and it's been fun to grow in this new modality.
Even though I'm excited about this new form of movement, I've kept up with my Pilates as well, and I can see how the two go together well. My core strength and stability have kept me safe. I have good body awareness thanks to Pilates, which has helped keep my form good. And my flexibility and mobility due to Pilates is also a huge win. I use my Pilates breath while lifting heavy. My balance is better. The list goes on.
Pilates has been with me in each season of life. And I plan to keep carrying it with me through each season. I know Pilates will keep me feeling GREAT and strong. Reach out to find out how Pilates can help you thrive during this current season in YOUR life.
This month I am celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Marystar Pilates! Thank you so much for all of your support!
